Mon.3/9.
Off to the Alice today. Not too bad a drive with ranges of hills to be seen through the low trees & scrub. Have a quick stop at the tropic of Capricorn – out of the tropics now! The drive into Alice very pretty with the MacDonnell Ranges & then the drive through Heavitree Gap to the caravan park. Good caravan park nestled into the back of the ranges. In the afternoon go into town for a bit of a reccy – tourist info & lookout. The lookout was on Anzac Hill which had a great view over the town & the ranges.

View over Alice Springs with Heavitree Gap in the distance.

Tues. 4/9.
Go out to the East MacDonnell Ranges for the day. We go as far east as we are going first - which was Trephina Gorge. Take the walk to the top of the gorge which was very good. The scenery of the gorge & distance range was great. On the way down there were many different wildflowers to admire. After lunch we went up the other side of the gorge for a short way & then back along the gorge floor. This was also a great walk & lovely scenery. Head back to town stopping at Corroboree rock, Emily & Jessie Gaps. Corroboree rock was fascinating – a tall dark rock that was so narrow there were places you could see through it. Both the gaps were interesting with rock paintings to do with a caterpillar story.

Wed. 5/9.
Have a quiet day today & a bit of a catch up. Did go into Alice for a while & do a bit of sightseeing. Went to the Olive Pink Botanical Garden which also had a hill walk with more views over the town. Unfortunately it was very smoky so unable to take any photos. Later went to the Araleun Cultural Centre where there is an Albert Namatjira exhibition. There was also the N.T museum which had some very interesting info & exhibits of meteorites, gemstones & rocks.

Wonderful  patterns on fallen tree in Trephina Gorge.
