Sun. 26/8.
Early start to Ubirr Rock – the weather is very hot & humid so have to do any walks in the morning – arvo only fit for a swim! Great walk around the rock with lots of aboriginal art work to see. Listen to a talk by a ranger at the main gallery about the paintings & the food they represented. Walked up to the top of the rock & looked out over the floodplains & the escarpment. Beautiful country but unfortunately the camera just doesn’t capture it! Had a look at Cahill’s Crossing which goes into Arnhem Land & the silly people who fish off the ford & the banks. The Alligator River is so muddy you would never be able to see any crocs until it was too late! Back to the C.P. for lunch & a very welcome swim!

Mon. 27/8.
Visit Nourlangie Rock this morning. Another very interesting walk with lots of aboriginal rock painting galleries. Here there is the lightning man & his family depicted in the pictures & his story. One of the galleries is situated in a beautiful cool spot where the wind blows thru the rock crevices. A lovely view from the lookout here too. Go to the billabong nearby & have a lovely walk along the edge. Beautiful spot with white water lilies & lots of birds. Like yesterday too hot to do much in the arvo so the welcoming pool gets the nod! Go to a talk in the evening given by a park ranger about crocs in the park – lots of croc info & some great photos.
