Wed. 22/8.
Graeme busy writing his C.V. & job application today. Go over to the Casaurina shopping centre. I have a bit of a wander while Graeme works on the computer. Do a quick trip to the info & shopping mall in Darwin & then have an afternoon swim. Go to the Stokes Wharf for dinner. Very pleasant spot sitting on the wharf watching the small boats & yachts.

Thur. 23/8.
Quiet day as Graeme tackles his application. Have a morning swim & another visit to the Casaurina shops. Go to the Mindil Beach markets for tea & an interesting wander.

Fri. 24/8.
Leave Darwin & start heading south & to Kakadu. First stop is Fogg Dam. Take an interesting walk – along floodplain, wetland & forest. Drive over the dam wall with wetlands either side where there were lots of birds. Have lunch in the hide/lookout overlooking the wetlands – lovely spot. Back to the highway & stop at Corroborree road house. Set up in caravan park behind the pub & have a swim. Go out to the Corroborree Billabong for the sunset tour. A very interesting trip with many great things to see – lots of birds, a few crocs & even a buffalo. Suppose to be a big number of salt (estuarine) crocs in the billabong but because it was so hot only got to see a handful the rest were cooling off out of sight. Saw a number of sea eagles & their nests. Also many & different types of water birds. We watched a couple of Jabiru doing their “dance” – what a wonderful sight! Another couple were doing their thing too so we were very privileged. Enjoyed another beautiful sunset while watching these glorious birds. A very memorable trip & I will probably be posting more photos from this trip in later blogs.

Sat.25/8.
Easy drive this morning into Kakadu. Number of creek & river crossings most of which looked very much like croc country! Set up camp in the same caravan park in Jabiru as we did 20 years ago – unfortunately maintenance has been a bit lacking but not too bad a c.p. The swimming pool & spa were still very relaxing.
